Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the most common human infection after respiratory and gastrointestinal infections, and is also the most common cause of patients admitted to hospitals with both community-acquired and nosocomial infections. Knowing the potential site of infection, whether the infection is uncomplicated or complicated, re-infection or relapse, or treatment failure and its pathogenesis and risk factors, is mandatory for improved management and prognosis.
