External Diseases of Eye

Akshay Gopinathan Nair

I am glad and it is my privilege to discuss about the special issue topic Cornea and External Diseases, Because the outside of the eye is in direct contact with the environment, it’s vulnerable to infections and injuries. There also are varieties of hereditary diseases which will impact the outer eye. The major signs of external disease are redness that doesn’t improve with treatment and poor vision not explained by retina problems. Corneal and external diseases ask eye conditions that affect the ocular surface. Some of the common conditions that affect the ocular surface include dry eye, blepharitis, allergies, conjunctivitis, corneal infections, and corneal dystrophies which can cause clouding of the cornea. The sub-specialty of Cornea and External Disease refers to the medical and surgical management of the complete range of routine, complex and high-risk corneal and external eye diseases.
