Internal Limiting Membrane Closure of Idiopathic Macular Hole

Mohamed Farouk Abdelkader an Hossam Mohamed Moharram

Purpose: Fi evaluate di efficacy an safety a combined phacoemulsification an 23gauge pars plana vitrectomy wid Brilliant blue-G (BBG)-assisted ILM peeling inna idiopathic macular hole surgery wid closure a di hole by an inverted ILM flap.
Design: Prospective an interventional case series.
Methods: 23 eyes wid large (>400 μm) idiopathic macular hole treated by phacoemulsification wid posterior chamber IOL an 23-gauge vitrectomy wid BBG-assisted ILM peeling wid closure a di hole by inverted flap a ILM. Dem did a follow up di patients dem fi di 12 months. Outcomes dem did evaluate in terms a visual improvement, macular hole closure an complications.
Results: In 22 (95.6%) patients, di macular hole did close (21 eye wid single procedure an one eye wid second surgery), an visual improvement did happen inna 19 eyes (82.6%). No intraoperative complications neva deh deh. Two patients develop post-operative glaucoma weh did need medication fi a few weeks.
Conclusion: Combined phacoemulsification an 23-gauge pars plana vitrectomy wid inverted ILM flap technique using BBG stain an SF6 as retinal tamponade provide good anatomic an visual outcomes inna cases a large idiopathic macular holes afta one operative interference.
