Paraneoplastic Vitelliform Retinopathy in Metastatic Cutaneous Melanoma: A Case Series

Parisa Taravati, Kathryn Pepple and Russell Van Gelder

Paraneoplastic vitelliform retinopathy is a rare condition associated with metastatic melanoma. Like melanomaassociated retinopathy (MAR), it can cause nyctalopia and progressive vision loss; however, unlike MAR, the fundus shows multifocal, yellow-orange vitelliform lesions beneath the neurosensory retina and at the level of the retinal pigment epithelium, as well as areas of subretinal fluid in the macula. The treatment of paraneoplastic vitelliform retinopathy is aimed at the underlying metastatic melanoma but unfortunately has a poor prognosis, with most patients succumbing to their disease. We report two cases of paraneoplastic vitelliform retinopathy in patients with metastatic cutaneous melanoma.
